What's in the case
Every STORM 1200x and STORM 400x hire includes:
- The light (STORM 1200x or 400x head)
- Ballast, with its ballast cable to the head
- Power cable for mains
- Soft case to carry it all
Modifiers (the 1200x reflector kit, Light Dome III and CF7 Fresnel) and stands are hired separately. We don't supply batteries or generators: STORM heads run from mains on site or power provided by production.
What we use STORM lights for
Sun through the window
Put the 1200x outside a window with a narrow reflector from the reflector kit for a hard, sunlit shaft, or push it through the 8x8 for a soft daylight wash across a room.
Night exteriors in the rain
Both STORM heads are IP65, so a backlight on a wet street or a seafront at night doesn't have to come down when the weather turns.
Two-light interview
Two 400x through Light Dome III softboxes give a soft key and fill, or turn one round as a backlight. A tidy setup for an office or a front room.
A shaped, hard source
The CF7 Fresnel is designed for the 400x and focuses from 15° to 40° (per Aputure), for a pool of light or a crisp edge.

Soft, full-colour light in places a big head won't fit.
Car interiors and low ceilings
The F21c (1x2, 100W) and F22c (2x2, 200W) are flexible, full-colour mats. They're light and flat enough to rig on a car roof lining, a low ceiling or a bar top.
Overhead soft for tabletop
An F22c over a table gives an even top light for food, product and hands-on shots.
Colour backgrounds and accents
The 300c is a full-colour Bowens-mount COB. Use it bare for a coloured background splash, or through a Light Dome III for soft colour.
Practicals in shot
The Aputure B7c is a colour-tunable smart bulb. Put it in a lamp in frame and match it to the scene.

App and DMX control
On-fixture control and Aputure's Sidus Link app are manufacturer features of the lights. We don't supply DMX desks or other control hardware, so bring your own if you need desk control.
Power
We don't hire batteries, generators or other location power. Plan on mains at the location, or power provided by production.

What comes with a STORM 1200x or 400x?
The light, ballast, power cable, ballast cable and a soft case. Modifiers like the reflector kit, Light Dome III and CF7 Fresnel are listed separately on our kit list.
Can I use the STORM lights in the rain?
Aputure rates both the STORM 1200x and 400x IP65, covering the head, control box and cabling. Take normal care, and remember the hirer is responsible for the kit on dry hire.
STORM 1200x or a pair of 400x?
The 1200x is one big source for a key, a sun or a wide exterior. Two 400x give you two lights to place, which usually suits interviews and smaller rooms. Tell us the shot and we'll suggest one.
Do the Amaran mats need mains power?
They run from mains, or from V-mount batteries if production provides them. We don't hire batteries or any location power.
Can I get Aputure on a weekend rate?
Yes. Send your dates and ask for our 2-day weekend or 3-day workweek rate on the STORM and Amaran kit you need.
