What to put in your brief
Six things that get you an accurate kit and price on the first reply.
- What you're shooting. Interview, music video, short film, commercial, product. One line is enough.
- Where. Interior or exterior, and the address or area. A flat in Hove and a beach at Camber need different kit.
- When. Dates and time of day. Daylight, dusk and night change the list, and 2 or 3 days may qualify for weekend or workweek rates.
- Power. Mains sockets, a production generator, or nothing. We don't supply batteries or generators, so it helps to know early. If you don't know yet, say so.
- Crew. How many of you, and whether anyone will run the lights. If not, ask for a technician.
- The look. References, a mood, a film you like. The more we see, the closer the first suggestion.
From brief to kit
You send a brief
Use the form below, or call or WhatsApp. It doesn't need to be technical.
We suggest a kit
Built from what we actually have, with a price that includes delivery and any technician time.
You change it or book it
Swap anything, add more, or take it as it is. Then collect in Brighton by arrangement, or we deliver.
Add a technician to any kit
Producers and agencies without a gaffer
A kit is only useful if someone can rig it. Add one of our gaffers or technicians and they'll drive the kit to set, then set up, run and look after the lights while you look after the shoot. While the kit is under their direct control, responsibility for it stays with us.
Hours and days
A technician's day is based on 10 hours unless agreed otherwise. Overtime is quoted case by case, so if you expect a long day, mention it in the brief and it'll be in the quote rather than a surprise.
Recent work
Recent jobs Sol has supplied lighting for.
Brand shoots
Lighting supplied for Nike and Foot Locker shoots (via a production company).
Kit questions
Can you change a kit?
Yes. These are starting points. Swap, add or remove anything from the kit list, or send us your brief and we'll build it for you.
Is the total a package price?
No. Each total is our listed day rates added together. Booking a whole kit? Ask for a bundle rate, and about 2-day weekend and 3-day workweek rates when you send your dates.
Do kits come with a technician?
Not by default. Any kit can be wet hired with one of our gaffers or technicians, who drives it to set, then rigs and runs it under your direction.
I don't know what I need. Can you still help?
Yes, that's what the brief is for. Tell us what you're shooting, where and when, and we'll come back with a kit and a price. We usually reply the same day.
When do I pay?
Payment is due before or at the start of the hire unless we've agreed otherwise. See section 16 of our terms of hire.
Can kits be delivered?
Yes, anywhere, case by case. Delivery is free within 30 minutes of Brighton on hires over a minimum hire value, covering most of Brighton & Hove. Further across Sussex and the south of England, it's quoted per job on time and mileage.
Send us your brief
Tell us what you're shooting, where and when. We'll put the lighting together and come back with a kit and a price.
No kit list needed. Tell us the shoot and we'll come back with a kit and a price, usually the same day.
